This set of photographs was taken during the 1940s and a great study of the
styles during that time. The photographer was an unknown amateur and
possibly a professional studio photographer judging from his studio work.
The photographs in their original state were very soiled. It was a
monumental task cleaning them up in Photoshop. After working on
the images for quite some time, it was apparent that the house the models
were photographed in was filthy. There was paper strewn about the floor,
spots on the wall, all which made it hard to distinguish whether the dirt
was a dust speck from scanning, surface specks on the emulsion or just plain
filth on the walls, furniture or floors of the house.
Many of nude models used were very attractive and their age ranged from
about 20 to 40. Were they girlfriends? Professional models? A combination?
Who knows? But the photographs did have a definite style and the collection
grew on me. They had a certain indiscernible charm about them. So I left
borders on the photos, wrinkles, missing corners. The image quality is
much better than the originals but they aren't as antiseptic as a fully
corrected image. Some of the photographs were so bad that I left them as-is.
Photograph 002 originally was in horrible shape. A good portion of the
emulsion was missing on the door and the model so they had to be rebuilt.
Photograph 042 is a corrected version of 043. In 043, you can see how it
would be hard to distinguish dirt spots. The scans are of extreme high
quality and the images can be increased by 200% to 300% for viewing without
a great loss of quality. The last image on the second page is image 145
blown-up which shows a reflection of the photographer in the mirror next to
the model.
